POINT PLEASANT — At the most recent meeting of the Mason County Board of Education, board members discussed a policy regarding staff members leaving school property during the school day.

This discussion on this policy came about as a result of several situations which were alluded to during the meeting where employees had left school grounds during the school day at times that were not their regularly scheduled lunch time. It was stated there was already a policy in place regarding situations such as this that requires the employee to sign out and sign back in.

Board members raised some questions as to why staff leaving school grounds without signing out could become a greater issue, for instance if there was a fire or another emergency situation and the employee couldn’t be located. Board members also discussed looking at the current policy at the next meeting and what the proper penalties would be if the policy is violated in the future.
