NEW HAVEN — As the heart of the fall season grows closer, another festival where locals can gather and enjoy each other’s company is set for Saturday.
On Saturday, October 20, 2012, the Town of New Haven will be holding their Oktoberfest 2012 with activities for all ages at various locations across the town.
Beginning at 8 a.m. will be the Wahama Scholarship 5K Walk/Run at the New Haven Fire Station. Also at 8 a.m. will be a war re-enactment located near the old Napa Building. Then at 9 a.m. will be the registration for the New Haven Road Angels Car Show at the New Haven Library.
Next on the agenda at 10 a.m. will be a watermelon seed spitting contest at the fire station. Also at the fire station at 11 a.m., and lasting until 1 p.m., will be a visit from Smokie the Bear, a bounce house, as well as a pumpkin decorating contest. There will also be musical entertainment at the fire station, which will last until around 2 p.m.
Also at 11 a.m. will be a chili cook-off at the fire station, and a Three-on-Three basketball tournament and a cornhole tournament at the New Haven Community Center. While the deadline to register for the basketball tournament is passed, registration for the cornhole tournament will be at 9:30 a.m. at the community center. Registration for the chili cook-off is also still available, but should be turned in as soon as possible to ensure enough space is available. Chili judging will be at noon on Saturday. It was also added those with chili only need to bring a crockpot of chili as well as other condiments they wish their chili to be tasted with, such as crackers or sour cream.
At 12:30 p.m., there will be a dessert auction and an old fashioned cake walk at the fire station.
