NEW HAVEN — Donations have been steadily trickling in from businesses and individuals in New Haven for the town’s Back to School Bash, which is slated for Thursday, August 15.
Roberta Hysell, recorder, said that the event will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the fire station on 5th St in New Haven. She added that all children who are starting or returning to school this year may attend and partake of the games, music and free school supplies.
“We do have a lot of supplies such as notebooks, pencils and things like that,” Hysell said. “What we still really need is backpacks.”
Hysell said that the event organizers are planning to give away backpacks with the supplies, and they would really like to be able to send each child home at the end of the evening with a backpack.
“Last year, we were able to do that,” Hysell said.
Hysell said that she is also working to come up with some fun games this year and hopes to have enough donated prizes so that all the children are able to win at least one prize each.
“We’re going to close that part of the road so that we can have games in the street,” Hysell said.
There’ll be food and music, too, she added.
“Gino’s is donating pizza to us for the event,” Hysell said, adding that Bernita and Juddy Allen have agreed to provide the musical entertainment.
Hysell said that people from the Mason County Health Department will set up a table, and are planning to hand out items to the children, as well.
“I know they’re bringing apples, bananas and bottles of water,” said Hysell.
Businesses and individuals wishing to donate more school supplies and backpacks may bring them to the city hall, library and City National Bank in New Haven.
“We’ll keep taking donations up until Thursday morning,” said Hysell.
