PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Gallia Academy golf team finished in the middle of the pack Thursday afternoon after placing eighth at the 15-team Portsmouth Invitational held at the Portsmouth Elks Country Club in Scioto County.
The Blue Devils posted a team score of 342 at the 18-hole contest, which ended up tying Piketon at the annual event. The Redstreaks, however, had a lower fifth score than GAHS — which allowed Piketon to win seventh place outright.
Chesapeake came away with the team championship after firing a four-man total of 320, which was eight shots better than the field.
Portsmouth was the overall runner-up with a 328, while West Union (329), Logan (332), Wheelersburg (335) and Logan Elm (341) rounded out the top six finishes.
Waverly (344), Warren (345), Jackson (366), Portsmouth Clay (376), Chillicothe (391), Pike Western (409) and Northwest (436) rounded out the team finishes in the 15-team field.
Dares Hamid led GAHS with a 78, followed by Zach Graham with an 82 and Bruce Moreaux with an 89. Marcus Moore rounded out the team tally with a 93, while Miles Cornwell added a non-counting 102.
Logan Holbrook of Logan won individual medalist honors with a two-over par round of 74. Jacob Barstow of Logan was the overall runner-up with a 75, while D.J. Graham of Piketon and Kade Miller of West Union tied for third with matching efforts of 76.
