Updated 4 p.m. Sunday: A serious two-vehicle accident on SR 73 near Diven Road just north of Hillsboro Sunday morning claimed the life of a New Vienna woman.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Sunday that Nancy E. Puckett, 46, New Vienna, died as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck.

The patrol said it received the call of the wreck at 9:22 a.m. The accident happened when a 2000 Ford F150 driven by Puckett was southbound on SR 73 and went left of center on the snow-covered roadway, striking a northbound 2007 Chevy Tahoe driven by Kassady Jordey, 26, of Winchester.

Puckett was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital.

Jordey was transported to Highland District Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highland County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Paint Creek fire department rescue workers were on the scene. Traffic was blocked in both directions. The Hillsboro Police Department was on the scene, blocking traffic from proceeding north on 73 from Harry Sauner Road.

The roadway was snow-covered and slippery due to new snowfall that occurred Sunday morning, on top of the icy conditions that already existed from previous bad weather last week.
