RACINE, Ohio — The Lady Tornadoes certainly opened the season the right way.
The Southern volleyball team began its 2014 campaign in fashion Thursday night, defeating Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division guest South Gallia in just three games.
The Lady Tornadoes (1-0, 1-0 TVC Hocking) rolled to a 25-14 win in the first game and a 25-12 win in the second, while closing the door with a 25-17 triumph in the third game.
Ali Deem led SHS service attack with 11 points, followed by Cameryn Harmon with nine. Haley Hill and Madison Maynard each had five points, Jansen Wolfe and Brooke Reynolds each had three points, while Brynn Harris, Savannah Bailey and Autumn Porter each finished with one point.
South Gallia’s (0-2, 0-1) service attack was paced by Kirstin Burnette with six points, followed by Courtney Haner with three and Sara Bailey with two. Tiffany Beaver and Mariah Hineman each added one point for SGHS.
The Lady Tornadoes were led a the net by Wolfe with six kills and Madison Maynard with five. Harris and Haley Hill both chipped in three kills, while Harmon, Deem and Hannah Hill each had one. Harmon led the Purple and Gold with nine assists, followed by Marlee Maynard with eight. Madison Maynard led the defense with four blocks, followed by Hannah Hill with one. Deem marked a team-high four digs, followed by Haley Hill with two and Reynolds with one.
Katie Bostic led the Red and Gold at the net with three kills, followed by Haner and Hineman with two each. Lexie Johnson and Jayla Wolford each had one kill with one, while Bostic and Wolford each marked a block. Haner posted a team-best four digs, Bailey added three, while Burnette had one.
The Lady Rebels resume play on Thursday when they host Federal Hocking in their home opener. Southern’s next game will be on Thursday at Trimble.
