School board approves personnel, agenda items

POINT PLEASANT — On Tuesday’s meeting, the Mason County School Board approved the following personnel and agenda items.

Approved the transfer of Richard Campbell, Custodian III/2, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High to Custodian III/2, Mason County Career Center, (220 days, 2:00-10:00 PM), Job #701-980-C, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the transfer of Dorothy Coyner, Custodian III/2, Hannan Jr/Sr High, to Custodian III/2, Ashton Elementary, (200 days, 2:00-10:00 PM) Job # 216-211-C, effective 2012-13 school year . County will be the funding source. Approved the transfer of Debbie Henry, Custodian III/2 Ashton Elementary, to Cook, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, Job #502-817-C, effective March 1, 2012. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Valerie Freeman, Custodian III/2, New Haven Elementary, 200 days (2:00 PM-10:00 PM), Job # 210-361-C, effective March 1, 2012. County will be the funding source.

Approved the employment of Shawnda Smith, Custodian III/2, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, 200 days (8:00 AM- 4:00 PM), Job #502-824-C, effective March 1, 2012. This is due to a medical leave of absence until regular employee returns. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Alan Durst, Custodian III/2, Wahama Jr/Sr High School 230 days (3:00 PM-11:00 PM), Job #503-708-C, effective March 1, 2012. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Clifford Hart, as substitute custodian, for the 2011-12 school year. County will be the funding source.

Approved the placement of the following Service Personnel on the Transfer and Subsequent Assignment List for the 2012-13 school year: Joyce Banks-employee with more seniority; Manuella Hall-employee with more seniority; Laura Herdman-employee with more seniority; The following bus operators due to change and realignment of bus routes: John Absten, Samuel Beckner, Brent Blake, Laura Bonecutter, Clyde Bowen, Kathy Bruner, Roger Bumgarner, John Casey, Charlene Clonch, Jami Cochran, David Dewees, David Downing, Vickie Flora, Victoria Gardner, Rodney Gleason, Leslie Hanson, Ronald Heath, Bruce Hendrickson, Kenneth Hess, George Hoffman, Albert Kelly, Stephen Keyser, Thomas Knapp, James Long, Donald Matheny, Charles McCallister, John McCarty, Sherry McDaniel, Paul Nichols, Lori Mutter, Stephen Patterson, Karen Pauley, Robert Powell, Marlene Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds, George Rimmey, Debra Roush, Doris Settle, John Settle, George Shell, Brenna Shobe, Nina Shobe, Randall Shobe, Pamela Simpkins, Carol Smith, Craig Smith, Michael Stover, Sharon Stover, Joey Thompson, Timothy Thompson, Ricky Towe, David Watterson, Sharon Watterson, Gari Worley, Mark Wright, and Ralph Zirkle. Approved the following Service Personnel Probationary Contracts for the 2012-13 school year: John Absten-Bus Operator, Thomas Bird-Maintenance, Kenneth Blessing-Custodian, Brenda Bowman-Secretary, Cynthia Chapman-Receptionist/Secretary, Debbie Henry-Custodian, Gena Jeffers-Secretary, James Long-Bus Operator, Sherry McDaniel-Bus Operator, Julie McWilliams-Custodian, Harriet Nibert-Secretary, Mandie Pierce-Accountant, Candy Robinson-Cook, Karen Wamsely-Aide, Nancy Warner-Accountant, Jason Wymer-Custodian. Approved the following Service Personnel Continuing Contracts for the 2012-13 school year: Thomas Byus-Custodian, Jami Cochran-Bus Operator, Keri Derenberger-Secretary, Vickie Flora-Bus Operator, Kenneth Hess-Bus Operator, Gregory Jarvis-Custodian, Albert Kelly-Bus Operator, Donald Matheny-Bus Operator, Lori Nutter-Bus Operator, Rebecca Turner, Secretary, Julie Wamsley, Secretary. Approved to delete the position of Kindergarten Aide, Point Pleasant Primary School, for the 2012-13 school year.

Accepted the resignation of Scarlett Enos, Parent Coordinator, Point Pleasant Primary School, effective January 26, 2012. Approved the employment of William Rice, Varsity Golf Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, Job #502-136-S, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Charles Blessing, Varsity Golf Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High School, (pending WVSSAC certification), Job #503-229-S, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Stephen Richardson, Head Jr High Baseball Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job # 502-124-C, effective March 1, 2012. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Michael Wolfe, Boys Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job #503-217-C, effective March 1, 2012. County will be the funding source.

Approved the employment of Troy Stewart, Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, (pending WVSSAC Certification), Job # 503-232-S, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Philip Serevicz, Jr High Football Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, (pending WVSSAC Certification), Job #503-205-S, for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source. Approved the employment of Justin Weaver, Boys Assistant Varsity Soccer Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, (pending WVSSAC Certification), Job # 502-139-S, effective 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.

Approved the proposed addition to the Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High Wrestling Facility (pending final written approval from the WV State Fire Marshall’s Office). Approved the lowest submitted mowing bids for the March thru October, 2012 mowing season from: Luke’s Lawn Service, LLC for the amount of $13,090.00 (Wahama Jr/Sr High, Wahama Softball Field, and New Haven Elementary); Tri-County Lawn Care for the amount of $26,950.00 (Leon Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Point Pleasant Primary School, Maintenance/Transportation, Beale Elementary, Hannan Jr/Sr High, and Ashton Elementary); Bryant Farm and Lawn Care for the amount of $29,590.00 (Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Mason County Career Center, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, and Central Office). County Monies will be the funding source. Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. Check # 78769 thru 78975, totaling $709,318.89.

In addition to Superintendent Suzanne Dickens, board members present were Michael Cottrill, Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Dale Shobe, and Matthew Thompson. The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. on March 13, at the Mason County Career Center.
