FRANKLIN FURNACE — The South Gallia Rebels (2-4) are looking for win number three on their season, and win number three for Gallia County, as they remain the only football team in the county to achieve a victory in 2009.
South Gallia will face a Green football team that is also 2-4, but has not won since week three against Hannan (0-5).
In last week’s victory, the Rebels ran for 139 yards and three touchdowns, one each from Austin Phillips, Dalton Matney, and Logan Wamsley. South Gallia also scored on a 54 yard touchdown strike from Cory Haner to Josh Cooper to give the Rebels the 29-6 victory.
Special teams play was also a key to victory with two fumble recoveries on kickoffs and a new place kicker for the team. Swedish exchange student, Rasmas Carlson, has joined the Rebels for the remaineder of the season and has taken over kickoffs, field goals, and extra points.
Green lost last week to Symmes Valley (5-1) by a score of 26-0. Symmes Valley is South Gallia’s week 10 opponent. Both South Gallia and Green have faced Southern this season, with South Gallia falling 28-6, and Green falling 25-16.
South Gallia’s wins have been against Portsmouth Notre Dame (2-4) and Fairfield Christian Academy (1-5) over the past two weeks. In the two victories, South Gallia has outscored its opponents 18.5 points per game to 6 points per game.
Green’s two victories on the season have come agsinst Manchester (0-6) and Hannan (0-5).
For the season, South Gallia is averaging 9.2 points per game, while allowing 17.6 points per game. Green is averaging 12.7 points per game, while giving up 24.7 points per game.
South Gallia has won the last four matchups against Green, winning last year by a score of 12-8. Green’s last victory in the series came in 2004 by a 20-7 margin.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Green High School in Franklin Furnace.
