PROCTORVILLE — River Valley had quite a showing Tuesday night at the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships at Fairland High School, but even those efforts were not enough to prevent the host Dragons from repeating as both the boys’ and girls’ champions for another fall.

Fairland was simply dominant in both varsity contests, winning the boys’ crown by 40 points while the Lady Dragons’ won by 15 points. FHS — which had 11 of the 14 All-OVC honorees at the meet — posted scores of 19 in the boys’ event and 22 in the girls’ competition.

The Silver and Black, however, were right behind the hosts in both events to finish as the runners-up, scoring 59 points in the boys’ race and 37 points in the girls’ race. And the Lady Raiders also came away with this year’s OVC individual champion — Katie Blodgett.

Blodgett, with her winning time of 20:49.65, became the Lady Raiders’ fourth OVC champion in the last five years, joining three-time winner Ashley Fitch (2005, 2006, 2007). Blodgett was also one of only two All-OVC honorees this season for the Silver and Black.

Jessica Hager also earned All-OVC honors by placing fifth with a time of 23:01.41. Carissa Wolfe (25:02.45) and Sarah Mayes (25:17.42) had respective efforts of 10th and 11th, while Chloe Houck (27:57.19) rounded out the team scoring in 14th.

Kara Harder also finished 19th with a time of 40:10.33 for RVHS.

On the boys’ side of things, Joe Stewart of Fairland won the individual title with a mark of 17:24.94.

The Raiders were led by Jarrod Hollingsworth with a time of 20:03.59, finishing 14th overall. Jamil Stepney (20:09.53) and Patrick Stanley (21:08.33) were next with respective efforts of 15th and 17th, while Luke Elmore (22:26.56) followed in 25th. Zack Polcyn (22:46.36) rounded out the scoring by placing 28th.

South Point had the only other team score, finishing third in the boys’ race with 78 points.
