LEON — Whether they showed up in character or came as theirselves, around 40 volunteers attended “Read to Me Day” at Leon Elementary School.

According to Principal Bowers, those in pre-kindergarten to sixth grade really enjoyed the day of reading.

“It has been wonderful,” Bowers said. “We have had parents, former principles, athletes and a few characters here all day.”

Several noteworthy appearances were made by the Cat in the Hat, Superintendant Dr. Capehart, Sheriff David Anthony, and employees from Toyota, who actually read to the kids in Japanese.

The ladies who represented the Buffalo plant, gave a presentation to each class they visited. They noted differences between Japan and the United States. Students also enjoyed were introduced to a cultural experience right in the classroom.

Mr. Kerr’s sixth grade class was visited by the Cat in the Hat and many other classrooms at Leon Elementary had a great time during “Read to Me Day.”

Leon was just one of the elementary schools in the county who participated in this event.
