POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant High School state champion wrestling team was recognized Tuesday by the Mason County Board of Education.

Jack Cullen, last year’s recipient of the coach of the year and regional coach of the year awards, presented the winning team members along with Ruth Caplinger, director of the Mason County Career Center to the board members. William Cottrill also was in attendance to present the students.

Each wrestler received a certificate from Caplinger. They were made by Mrs. Darby’s desktop publishing class.

Jeff Wamsley’s graphic design class made a special vinyl banner that will be hung inside the walls at Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School that recognizes the 2009-2010 team as state champions. The sign was designed by Shane Smith.

Cullen commented that members of the team have been wrestling for a long time and that the state title belongs to everyone that has been involved in the wrestler’s careers.

“This doesn’t just belong to one person,” Cullen said. “Youth coaches, middle school coaches and parents, all have a part in this state title.”

John Bonecutter, the head coach, along with his assistant coaches and mat maids, were present to receive the recognition from the board. He also was recognized at the state tournament as coach of the year.
