POINT PLEASANT — Peoples Bank and its “Season of Giving” campaign continues, recognizing a Point Pleasant boy for giving back to a fellow athlete in Gallia County, Ohio.
This week’s winner of the “Season of Giving” is Derek Raike who was nominated by his mother, Tonya Shobe.
According to Raike’s nomination letter summary provided by Peoples Bank and written by Shobe, he was chosen due to the following:
“On November 8 the Point Pleasant Youth Football Champions played the South Gallia Rebels. Derek Raike, an 11-year old sixth grader from Point Pleasant, won the ‘Player of the Game’ trophy and his team won the Championship.
Following the game, Derek walked over to the South Gallia team and handed his ‘Player of the Game’ trophy to Briar Williams as a true sign of sportsmanship and character. Derek felt Briar had played a great game and should be recognized.
Derek told no one what he had done. The Gallia County parents were amazed, right along with his mother, Tonya.
‘As a mother, you pray and hope your son is well rounded and has a big heart,’ said Shobe. ‘When Briar’s parents came up to me and told me what Derek had done and what a wonderful young man he was, well I have no words to describe the feeling. I would like him to know, I am blessed with a giving young man and very thankful for him every day.’”
All nomination letters were to be 25o words or less and received by Nov. 23 with four nominees receiving a $500 Visa prepaid gift card from Peoples Bank for Christmas.
This is the second of four profiles featuring the winners of the “Season of Giving” with two more to follow in upcoming editions.
