GALLIPOLIS FERRY — A Gallipolis Ferry man was recently arrested after deputies with the Mason County Sheriff’s Department found components of an alleged meth lab.
James S. Potter II, 36, was charged with operating or attempting to operate a clandestine drug lab. His bond was set at $50,000 in Mason County Magistrate Court.
According to the official criminal complaint filed in magistrate court, deputies responded to Horse Lick Road in reference to a structure fire. The sheriff’s department clarified this fire was in a camper next to Potter’s residence. Upon investigating the scene and obtaining written consent to search Potter’s residence, deputies found the components of an alleged clandestine drug lab inside the residence. These components included professional drain opener, rock salt, coffee filters, plastic tubing and the remains of what was described in the complaint as a “shake-and-bake lab” located in the kitchen area of the home.
Officials with the sheriff’s department said to their knowledge the fire at the nearby camper remains under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office and the cause remains unknown. Deputy J.T. Veith was the arresting officer in this case.
