POINT PLEASANT — Six Mason County students placed individually in the RESA II Math Field Day recently, and will advance to the state competition in April.
Jacob Lloyd, of Wahama, won first place in the ninth-grade division, while Tanner Durst, of Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School, placed third. Zachary Davis, of Beale Elementary School, placed second in the fifth-grade division, and Bryce Zuspan, of New Haven Elementary School, will be an alternate in the fourth-grade division.
In addition, Bryce Tayengco, of Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School, earned a spot on the RESA II High School Math Field Day team, and Cassidy Duffer, of Hannan, was named an alternate.
The students will travel to Fairmont State University on April 30 to compete in the West Virginia State Math Field Day.
Both the Mason County 4-6 grade and 7-9 grade teams placed in regional competition.
The 4-6 grade team placed third, and consisted of Zachary Davis, Michael VanMatre, Mattie Fields, Sawyer VanMatre, David Kapp, Bryce Zuspan, Carson Gibbs, Layne Holley and Bailee Bumgarner.
The 7-9 grade team included Wyatt Bryan, Mackenzie Barr, Harley Roush, Monica Cook, Jacob Lloyd, Christopher Smith, Tanner Durst, Dylan Tayengco, Emma Gibbs, and Jacob Fisher.
