POINT PLEASANT — The deadline to register to vote in the May 10 primary is 4 p.m. today.
Residents may apply to register to vote online through the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office, or in person at the county clerk’s office, or by mail.
To register to vote or update voter registration, voters must provide the following information: Name as it appears on their West Virginia driver’s license or ID card; date of birth; West Virginia driver’s license or ID card number; and the last four digits of their Social Security number.
When a resident completes the application online, it will be submitted to the local, applicable county clerk for processing. The county clerk will notify voters if their application has been accepted or rejected. In addition, voter registration forms are available for free download at the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website. Voters can deliver these forms to the local county clerk’s office or they are available at Mason County Clerk Diana Cromley’s office, located on the second floor of the Mason County Courthouse.
As of Feb. 29, the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office reported the following voting statistics for Mason County: 17,550 total registered voters. Of those voters, 8,578 are registered Democrats, while 5,946 are registered Republicans, 15 belong to the Mountain Party, 22 are Libertarians and 2,500 have no party affiliation, with 489 listed as “other” voter registration.
Early voting begins April 27 and ends May 7 between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Early voting takes place on the second floor of the Mason County Courthouse in the County Commission meeting room. There will be poll workers in the lobby to assist voters to one of six voting machines in the early voting room.
