School board approves personnel agenda items

POINT PLEASANT — A special regular business meeting was recently held by the Mason County Board of Education, where members voted on personnel, including rescinding a motion for some employees from the Reduction in Force list, the installation of a walking trail at Hannan Junior/Senior High School, and more.

Board members in attendance for the meeting were Jared Billings, Paul Sayre, Dale Shobe, Tom Nunnery, Greg Fowler.

The following motions were unanimously approved:

Recommended the board rescind the Reduction In Force of the following employees, as the reason for the Reduction In Force no longer exists for the 2016-17 school year: Kim Browning, counselor at Point Pleasant Primary School; Maria Eshenaur, assistant administrator at Ashton/Beale Elementary; Millicent Kimball, Title I Interventionist at Hannan Jr/Sr High; Christana Long, counselor at Beale Elementary; Ruth Sheets, counselor at Leon Elementary.

Approved the lowest acceptable proposal by Myers Paving, to install a walking track at Hannan Jr/Sr High, at a cost of $15,000. Donations to Hannan Junior/Senior High and school level excess levy allocations will be the funding sources.

Accepted the resignation of Blair Bumgarner, sixth grade teacher, Leon Elementary, effective June 30. Accepted the resignation of Melissa Milhoan, substitute nurse, effective April 22. Approved the employment of Amy Clendenen, visual impairment teacher, Central Office Itinerant, Job 001-017-I, effective May 12. Approved the employment of Jodie Lewis, school nurse, (pending CIB clearance) Central Office Itinerant, Job 001-011-I, for the 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of Carol Newlon, alternative education teacher, Mason County School for Success, Job 505-101-P, effective 2016-17 school year – Newlon is being employed from the Reduction In Force list. Approved the employment of Nicole Hoover, substitute teacher (pending CIB clearance), Central Office Itinerant, 2015-16 school year.

Granted FMLA for Goldie Patterson, custodian, Beale Elementary, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave. Granted FMLA for Carol Smith, bus operator, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave. Granted FMLA for Paul Smith, bus operator, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave.

Accepted the resignation of Michael Chapman, substitute custodian, effective immediately. Accepted the resignation of Ralph Greene, substitute bus operator, effective June 30. Accepted the resignation of Lana Rayburn, .5 secretary adult programs, MCCC, effective June 30. Accepted the resignation of Delma Smith, substitute bus operator, effective April 21. Approved the transfer of Russell Nott, bus operator, Route 2091, to Route 151, Job 014-175-C, effective May 12. Approved the transfer of Melissa Williamson, custodian, Wahama Jr/Sr High, to custodian, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job 502-818-C, effective May 12.

Approved the employment of Kacee Rainey and Rhonda Vaughn, as substitute aides (pending CIB clearance), for the 2015-16 school year. Approved the employment of Rodney Ash, substitute bus operator, for the 2015-16 school year. Approved the employment of Monica Baker, Shawna Hill, Dana Rogers and SuAnn Watterson, as substitute cooks for the 2015-16 school year. Approve the employment of Millicent Kimble and Rosalie Miller as homebound/alternative education teachers, on an as needed basis, Job 001-045-E, effective 2015-16 school year. Approved the employment of Maggie Cade, aide/extended year, Point Pleasant Primary School, Job 217-100-SUM, for the 2016 summer.

Approved the employment of Valerie Wolford, assistant varsity volleyball coach, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Job 501-021-S, for the 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of David Withrow, assistant varsity boys’ track coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job 502-149-S, for the 2015-16 school year. Approved the employment of John Arnott, junior high golf coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job 503-229-S, for the 2016-17 school year. Approve the employment of John Arnott, senior high golf coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job 503-230-S, for the 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of John Arnott, girls varsity basketball coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job 503-212-S, effective 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of Phillip Hoffman, junior varsity baseball coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job 503-218-S, for the 2016-17 school year. Approve the employment of Jodie Roush, assistant varsity football coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job 503-204-S, for the 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of Mike Wolfe, seventh grade girls’ basketball coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job 503-215-S, for the 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of Mike Wolfe, head varsity softball coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job 503-221-S, for the 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of Heidi Wood, head junior high cheerleading coach (1st half), Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job 503-235-S, for the 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of Heidi Wood, head junior high cheerleading coach (2nd half), Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job 503-235.5-S, for the 2016-17 school year.

Approved an out of state trip for Heidi Wood, Lorita Carr, Mason County Career Center FBLA Students and Wahama FBLA Students, to take a trip to Atlanta Georgia, June 28 – July 2, to attend the National FBLA Conference. CTE Travel Funds will be the funding source.

Approved out of state travel for Don Bower, Pat Brumfield, Tim Click and Alesia Green, to travel to New Orleans, La., to attend a professional development conference from July 7 – 11. Title I and Title II will be the funding sources

Approved the agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Mission WV (MWV) for the utilization of the Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Project in Mason County Schools for the 2016-17 school year. This program is at no cost to the county.

Approved USI Insurance Services, LLC, as the Agent of Record for Workers’ Compensation Insurance for the 2016-17 school year.

Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers and supplements. Check numbers 93323 thru 93457 and Purchase Card check numbers 1772 thru 1797. Total Amount: $919,828.38.

The school board met for a special meeting Tuesday to discuss the preliminary budget for the 2016-17 school year with a similar special meeting to discuss the preliminary budget set for 4 p.m., May 31 at the Mason County Career Center.

The next regular business meeting is 6 p.m. May 24 at the career center.
