ASHTON — Anna Rose Taylor has been named the top student of Hannan High School’s Class of 2016.

Hannan hosts its graduation commencement ceremony at 11 a.m. this Saturday in the high school gymnasium. In all, 44 graduates will receive diplomas.

Taylor, of Apple Grove, is graduating magna cum laude and is the daughter of Keith and Tammy Taylor. She plans on attending Marshall University where she will major in Medical Imaging. Her scholarships and awards include: WSAZ Best of the Class, PROMISE Scholar, Hannan Alumni Scholarship, Don & Dorothy Sturgeon Scholarship, Marshall University (A. Michael Perry Scholar), Holzer Health System Annual Science Award Winner, Wilcoxen Funeral Home Scholarship, M & G Polymer Scholarship, WVSSAC State Sportsmanship Award. School activities include: Varsity Volleyball Captain, Varsity Basketball Captain, Varsity Softball Captain, National Honor Society Secretary, SADD, RAZE, Student Council President, FBLA.

Following Taylor as fellow honor graduates from the Class of 2016, in order of ranking as presented by the school, are, Charles “Chad” Rowsey Withers IV, Shelbie Ann Mayes, Jasmine Ranee Mayes, Allison Paige Blake and Cassandra Meadows.

Withers of Milton, is graduating magna cum laude and is the son of Charlie Withers and Bryan and Tammy Toney. He plans on attending West Virginia University where he will major in Civil Engineering. His scholarships and awards include: PROMISE Scholar, Hannan Alumni Scholarship, Don and Dorothy Sturgeon Scholarship, WVU – Shenandoah Scholar/Top Scholar, Wilcoxen Funeral Home Scholarship, OVEC Science Scholarship, Minuteman Scholarship (there are only six of these scholarships given in the state and Withers ranked first place of all applicants; given by the Army National Guard). Withers will begin at WVU as a cadet in ROTC. School activities include: varsity football captain, varsity track, National Honor Society President, LEOs Club President- Hannan Chapter.

Shelbie Mayes of Apple Grove, will graduate magna cum laude and is the daughter of Mark and Becky Plants and Larry Mayes. She plans on attending Mountwest CTC where she will receive certification in American Sign Language. She has received the Mason County Education Association Scholarship. Activities include: varsity volleyball, varsity softball captain, SADD, RAZE, FBLA, FFA President, National Honor Society Treasurer, 4-H Secretary of Go Getters, LEOs Club, student council.

Jasmine Mayes of Ashton, will graduate magna cum laude and is the daughter of Dwayne and Teresa Mayes. She will be attending Mountwest for general/transfer studies. She has received the Dr. Milton Lilly Scholarship. Activities include: varsity basketball, varsity softball, SADD, RAZE, student council, National Honor Society.

Blake of Fraziers Bottom, will graduate cum laude and is the daughter of Mark and Frances Blake. She plans on attending Fairmont State and double majoring in Psychology and Sociology. She has received the Forth Foods Scholarship. Activities include: Cheerleading, 4-H Go Getters Treasurer, National Honor Society Historian, student council, choir member.

Meadows, of Milton, will graduate cum laude and is the daughter of Eddie and Mayme Meadows. She plans on attending Mountwest as an Accounting Major. She has received the Forth Foods Scholarship. Activities include: FFA Junior Advisor, Student Council Vice President, National Honor Society Vice President, 4-H Go Getters President, Mason County Junior Fair Board Member, LEOs Club Hannan Chapter.

Also, members of the Class of 2016 have requested the late Shane Meadows be placed as an honorary graduate with their class. Meadows, who passed away from an illness in 2013, would’ve graduated with his fellow Wildcats this year.
