MASON COUNTY — Free is a good thing. Free food is even better, especially when it’s being served at the same time, on the same day, in three different locations.
The Kitchen Table, a charitable organization in Mason County, will kickoff its “Kid’s Kafe” free summer meal program by offering free food to kids in Point Pleasant, Gallipolis Ferry and New Haven this Friday.
From noon to 1 p.m., free food will be offered to all children under the age of 18 simultaneously at the Pleasant Valley Wellness Center in Point Pleasant, the ICL Clubhouse in Gallipolis Ferry and the New Haven Fire Department in New Haven. On the menu will be Papa John’s pizza, potato chips, cupcakes and a drink.
More dates and locations, which will be spread across Mason County, are being planned as stops for the “Kid’s Kafe” and will be announced as the summer progresses by The Kitchen Table.
The Kitchen Table, which consists of local volunteers, formed in February with a mission of bringing the community together with meals, while providing those who need a meal with access to one. The group has hosted events like the Lip Sync Battle at The Meeting House, along with several free meals at that location, and recently hosted a gospel sing and free meal at the First Church of God in Point Pleasant.
The Kitchen Table volunteers say they want to physically branch out into the county to literally serve those meals to those in need and the “Kid’s Kafe” presented a perfect opportunity. As volunteers pointed out, some children who rely on getting breakfast and lunch at school, go without during summer months. The “Kid’s Kafe” hopes to fill that gap in some way and though the volunteers say they hope free pizza, chips and cupcakes go to those who need them, these free meals are for all kids who want them as well.
Bringing people together from all walks of life is one of the things The Kitchen Table volunteers say they hope to achieve.
