School board approves personnel

POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Board of Education met this week for its regular business meeting to vote upon personnel issues, including hiring staff and approving a list of substitute teachers.

At the meeting and voting on agenda items were school board members Dale Shobe, president, Jared Billings, vice president, Greg Fowler, Meagan Bonecutter, Rhonda Tennant.

The board approved the following motions:

Accepted the resignation of Marshall Barnhouse, Music Teacher, Hannan Jr/Sr High, effective Aug. 5. Approved the resignation of Melissa Sheets, English Teacher, Wahama Jr/Sr High, effective July 8. Approved to rescind the Transfer and Subsequent Assignment of Jocelyn Casto, Kindergarten Teacher, Leon Elementary, as the transfer no longer exists for the 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of Nicole Hoover, Chemistry Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-814-P, effective 2016-17 school year. Approved the employment of Matthew McBride, 7-12 grade English/LA Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, Job #502-822-P, effective 2016-17 school year. Approved the transfer of Mike Wallace, PE/Health Teacher, Ashton Elementary/Hannan Jr/Sr High, to PE/Health/Safety Hannan Jr/Sr High, Job #501-629-P, effective 2016-17 school year.

Approved the audiology contract agreement between Mason County Board of Education and RESA II, for audiology services at a cost of $12,500, for the 2016-17 school year – Special Education will be the funding source. Approved the Medicaid contract agreement between Mason County Board of Education and RESA II, for Medicaid billing services, at a cost of $11,900, for the 2016-17 school year – Special Education will be the funding source. Approved the contracted services agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Vanessa Harper, to provide Braille Specialist Services for Mason County students for the 2016-17 school year – Special Education will be the funding source. Approved the contracted services agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Douglas Sturgeon, to provide a teacher for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Services for Mason County students for the 2016-17 school year – Special Education will be the funding source. Approved the contracted services agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Diane Foreman, to provide Diagnostician Services for Mason County students for the 2016-17 school year – Special Education will be the funding source.

Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers and supplements. Check numbers 94100 thru 94181 and Purchase Card Check number 1852. Total Amount: $1,059,627.17.

The next regular school board meeting, originally scheduled for Aug. 9, has been rescheduled for noon, Aug. 11 at the new central office located in the former Moose building.
