Clothing and school supplies giveaway set for Saturday

POINT PLEASANT — With the school year just around the corner, some parents may be wondering how they will afford to send their children back to class with clothes and supplies.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday, at the First Church of God Family Center, a free clothing giveaway will take place. This giveaway will include backpacks for children and school supplies. There are 200 backpacks to give away which will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

This is the second year the church has offered the free giveaway just prior to school starting. Last year, church members said there was an overwhelming response to the event so they brought it back as an outreach activity for the community.

Though there will be clothing for children, there will also be clothing for adults in all sizes, in styles for both men and women. There is no income eligibility for the giveaway, those in need simply need to show up.

Church members have been working to get ready for the giveaway, including work parties most of this week. Though a lot of the clothes are used, some still have the tags on them and have never been worn.

The church hosts many events to reach different members of the community and this week launched registration for “Jesus Prom” to be held Oct. 15, a dance for those who have special needs, whether physical or mental handicaps. There will be food, D.J., hair, makeup and nails done on site. There will also be a place for photos, where each guest will receive a complimentary photo to commemorate their evening. This will be a free event.

For information on any church event, find it on Facebook, or email questions to ppchurchofgod@gmail.com, or call 304-675-3842.

The church is located on Jefferson Avenue, behind Wendy’s restaurant with its Family Center next door.
