The body of a Concord Township man who had been missing since April 4 was found Tuesday by the Highland County Sheriff’s Office.

Kenneth A. Shafer, of the Sugar Tree Ridge community, had been missing since the evening of April 4 when he was last seen at his Concord Township home, the sheriff’s office said in a press release late last Friday. The sheriff’s office said that circumstances surrounding events on April 4 led to an investigation into Shafer’s disappearance.

Shafer’s body was found Tuesday in a remote wooded area in Concord Township, a press release that was issued Wednesday by the sheriff’s office said. His body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

Sheriff Richard Warner said investigators have found nothing to lead them to believe that Shafer’s death was suspicious.

“There is nothing out of the ordinary, nothing apparent that we’ve seen as far as (the death) being suspicious or a suicide,” Warner said.

The sheriff said the fact that Shafer left some personal items behind, including his cell phone and keys, when he originally came up missing was what initiated an investigation.

The cause of death remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, the Highland County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Attorney Generals Office (BCI&I).
