POINT PLEASANT — The new home of the Mason County Sheriff’s Department remains under construction with a recent progress meeting held in the Mason County Commission room.
Present at the meeting were Greg Musgrave, Jerry Jones, Todd Lancaster from Lombardi Development, Tom Cloer with Chapman Technical Group and Rick Handley, president of the Mason County Commission, John Gerlach, county administrator.
Work completed since the last construction meeting: Insulation and gypsum board installation on the second floor was ongoing at the time of the site visit; excavation for the elevator pit and foundations were complete; mobilization of the crane and drill rig for the auger cast piles were complete; installation of pipes began.
The proposed scheduled for this week and next is: Installation of the auger cast piles; installation of the helical piers; install under slab plumbing inside the building; install geo-foam at the first floor; start installation of the insulation and gypsum board on third floor.
The change order for the window replacement project for the second and third floor windows, was given to Musgrave who noted the window order had approximately a 14-week lead time for manufacturing. The change order is for 23 windows for the hardware building. It was decided to replace all the windows due to age and condensation issues. The cost to replace 23 windows is $66,000 - all windows will be compliant with zoning guidelines pertaining to historic buildings in downtown Point Pleasant.
The original cost of the entire renovation project was $1.3 million but with change orders to date, that project total is $1.4 million.
Handley and Gerlach asked if the second and third floor can be accessed from the front and rear stairs once construction in complete. Cloer said access to the second and third floor from the stairs is allowed even though the stairs are required for egress in the case of an emergency. After the meeting, Cloer researched the door hardware and reported access to the front and rear stair and to the second and third floor from the stairs is possible, however a key will be required for access.
The next regularly scheduled meeting on the project is at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 12.
This month, the county commission approved a 20-year loan in the amount of $1 million from Ohio Valley Bank for the project at an interest rate of 3.99 percent. OVB had the lowest of two bids presented to the commission.
