NEW HAVEN — Council member Kenneth Vickers addressed the concerns of a home-owner whose driveway has been damaged at the recent New Haven Town Council meeting.
The home-owner in question had previously asked council to approve a driveway repair by E & R; the driveway had suffered water damage, and the motion had passed after a unanimous vote. However, the resident expressed at the meeting that he believes the damage was more extensive than he originally thought. Vickers told council that he has spoken to the workers of E & R, and they said that there is no further damage. The resident asked that council document his concerns.
Other council members present at the meeting were Mayor George Gibbs, Amy Ferguson, Sarah Gibbs, Jim Elias, Jessica Howard, and recorder Roberta Hysell.
In other news, town resident Rebecca Coleman spoke to council about a damaged sidewalk in the town. She asked about a timeframe for fixing the sidewalk, and Gibbs asked recorder Roberta Hysell to create a work order for the completion of this job. Sheila Roush, member of the Necalima Garden Club addressed council about a possible clean-up project for various locations in the town. The club, Roush said, would appreciate help from churches, other organizations, or interested individuals. Council voted to allow and support the project, but will have no financial involvement in the endeavor.
In other town business, a police vehicle currently has a broken radiator and council voted to allow Stephen’s Garage to do the necessary repairs. Also under town business, council member Jim Elias has agreed to inspect the mowers at the maintenance plant and make an assessment on needed equipment purchases and repairs. Council also addressed an issue at the community center, whose water has been turned off due to non-payment. The bill, which included the cost of filling the pool for the summer season, was unusually large, and council members Jim Elias and Sarah Gibbs asked that the bill be adjusted because of this cost. Vickers agreed conditionally; he said that the adjustment must comply with PSC laws. No arrangements have been made regarding the payment of this past due bill.
Mason County Health Department will provide flu shots from 2-6 p.m. October 2 at the Hew Haven Community Center. The Wahama Scholarship Committee will hold its walk/run on October 12, and this year’s Trick or Treat has been scheduled from 6-7 p.m. on October 31. Motions were made for all of these issues, and council voted unanimously to approve them.
The next council meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, October 7 at city hall.
