POINT PLEASANT — The annual Battle of the Bands returns this Saturday, Oct. 26 to Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School.
The “battle” begins at 4 p.m. and will feature marching bands from three states, including bands from Kentucky, Ohio and throughout West Virginia. According to PPHS Band Director Jeff Hilbert, 14 bands have signed up to participate in four classes.
Participating in the competition this year are bands from: Wahama High School, Meigs High School (Ohio), Southern High School (Ohio), South Gallia High School (Ohio), Poca High School, Buffalo High School, Tygart Valley High School, Wirt High School, Paden City High School, Bluefield High School, Sherman High School, Johnson Central High School (Ky.), Princeton High School and Spring Valley High School.
In addition, the PPHS Black Knight Marching Band as well as the PPJHS Marching Band will perform in exhibition during the competition.
According to Hilbert, the Black Knight Marching Band finished its competition season at the Black Walnut Festival in Spencer on Oct. 12 after having competed for four straight weekends. The competitions included events at Cabell Midland, Poca and Princeton.
The flag corps ended the season having been undefeated and winning highest score honors for the Princeton competition. The band won second runner up to grand champion trophy at Princeton as well as a second and two third place finishes. Percussion won two second place and one third place finish. Field Commander Elizabeth Bateman won first place at the Black Walnut Festival.
This Saturday’s Battle of the Bands is open to the public and Hilbert encourages everyone to join the band for the last event of the season.
