Where to ‘trick or treat’ and when

MASON COUNTY — Halloween arrives on Thursday in Mason County, and there are holiday events offered for ghosts and goblins of all ages.
First of all, the question most asked in every community right now — When is trick or treat? Listed are the trick or treat times reported to the Point Pleasant Register for the following local communities.
HARTFORD — Trick or Treat in Hartford will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Oct. 31, afterwards there will be costume judging at the Hartford Community Center. Also, bring pumpkins carved or decorated to be judged. Refreshments and “spooktacular” door prize for any age.
LEON — Leon trick or treat, 6-7 p.m., Oct. 31.
MASON — Trick or Treat in the town of Mason is from 6-7 p.m., Oct. 31. The mayor will be handing out treats at the Mason Senior Citizens Center on behalf of the town.
NEW HAVEN — Trick or treat for the town of New Haven will be 6-7 p.m., Thursday, October 31, with a party at the fire station immediately following.
POINT PLEASANT — Trick or treat for the city of Point Pleasant is from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31.
Also, the Mason County Commission voted to recommend Trick or Treat in all non-municipal areas be from 5-6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31.
Next up, the famous Halloween Community Block Party in Point Pleasant is happening from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31 at Riverfront Park. According to Denise Scarberry, a longtime organizer of the event, if it rains, the block party will be held in the Trinity UM Church Christian Community Center building - but organizers are praying for no rain. Also, due to a last minute fundraiser push, over $500 was donated to the cause to help keep the event free to all. There will be free candy, hot dogs, popcorn, drinks, games, inflatables for kids and a haunted trail. Students can earn community service hours by volunteering at the haunted trail.
Other Halloween events reported to the Point Pleasant Register include Truck or Treat from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31 at Bellemead United Methodist Church. Also, a haunted house and haunted hayride will be offered from 8-11 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31 at the Mason County Fairgrounds.
