POINT PLEASANT — Pleasant Valley Hospital (PVH) is pleased to welcome Alvaro Gutierrez, MD, neurologist, to its medical staff.
The PVH neurology office of Dr. Gutierrez is located in the Medical Office Building at the hospital. He and his staff provide care for adult and pediatric patients with the whole range of neurological diseases including: Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, migraines and other conditions.
“Dr. Gutierrez is an asset to our community as he provides neurological care for both pediatric and adult patients,” stated William A. Barker, Jr., senior vice-president of administration. He further stated, “It is important to us to provide patients with the services they need here in the community so they don’t have to go out of town for health care.”
Dr. Gutierrez was born and raised in Argentina. Following in his father’s footsteps, he attended the medical school Universidad Nacional de Rosario. He completed his neurology residency and two subspecialty fellowships in the United States, and is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Gutierrez has worked in academic as well as private practice settings in both countries for the past 30 years. For more than 20 years, he has cared for patients in the Morgantown area.
During his academic years, he was a professor of neurology at WVU. There, he was the director of epilepsy care and the EEG monitoring lab, as well as the director of the neurophysiology lab. For about five years, he served as an examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. During his tenure at the University, he published numerous articles and participated in clinical research.
