POINT PLEASANT — The remodel of the former Point Pleasant Hardware building into the home of the new Mason County’s Sheriff’s Department met its substantial completion date of Feb. 1, a few days early.
On Thursday, a walk through for county officials happened, allowing for a review of what has been completed and the creation of a punch list of what remains to do in order to wrap up the project.
The building is expected to be in use around the first of March and the project will come in at around $1.4 million. At Thursday’s meeting of the Mason County Commission, County Administrator asked for a budget revision to allow $350,000 transferred from the county’s rainy day fund for a payment on the project - the commission unanimously approved.
Yesterday, crews were working on the installation of the elevator. In addition, a progress meeting on the construction was held yesterday with more details to be released in an upcoming edition.
The first and part of the second floors will be used by the sheriff’s department. However, other parts of the building will be used for courthouse storage and meeting space. The third floor apartment can be rented out to a tenant to bring added income for the county.
