March to highlight ‘Meals On Wheels’

MASON COUNTY — Next month is “March for Meals” - a time when the focus will be placed on the Meals On Wheels program in Mason County.
According to Renae Riffle, executive director of the Mason County Action Group, several events are being planned next month to both highlight and help support the home delivered meals program in Mason County.
Several special guest delivery persons will be representing Mason County and bringing home delivered meals to the doorsteps of several clients. These special guests include State Sen. Mitch Carmichael, Delegates Jim Butler and Scott Cadle, Point Pleasant Mayor Brian Billings and City Clerk Amber Tatterson, to name a few. These special deliveries will be made the week of March 17. In addition, a bucket drive will be held from noon to 4 p.m., March 8 in front of the Point Pleasant Municipal Building to collect donations for Meals On Wheels.
In other news from the Mason County Action Group, coming up in March, the Mason Senior Senior Center which had been closed due to waterline breaks will reopen on Monday, March 3. Also in March, Irish cake and ice cream will be served for lunch on March 17.
The Mason County Action Group’s Ann Dalton will be teaching a Tai Chi class sponsored by the WoHeLo CEOS Club from 1-2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Ashton Baptist Church. This is a six-week class and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday through April 3. For more information call Dalton at 304-675-2369.
March activities for the Gene Salem Center are: 10 a.m. Mondays and Fridays, bingo; 10 a.m. Wednesdays, Senior Center Country Band; 10 a.m. Thursdays, Church Service; March 4, 10 a.m., HealthSouth gives blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks and cholesterol checks. March 6, 5 p.m., Angie Thomas hosts Wings Bereavement Support Group. March 11 Karen Roberts from Anwar Eye Center offers free vision screening at 10 a.m. March 18 Katie Clagg from Holzer Geriatric Life Center speaks at 10 a.m.; Caregiver Coffee Break Support Group at 5 p.m. March 19, Veterans Assistance Representative arrives from noon to 5 p.m. March 25, Betty Farmer presents “Farmers Findings” at 10:45 a.m.
March activities for the Mason Senior Center: noon on Tuesdays, Scrabble; noon on Wednesdays, card games; noon on Thursdays, bingo; March 7 at 11 a.m., Seth Summers from US Postal Inspection Service presents “Fraud Scams Targeting the Elederly”; March 10 at 10:30 a.m., Brooke Fletcher from the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office; March 31 at 10:30 a.m., Overbrook Rehabilitation Center gives free blood pressure checks.
