POINT PLEASANT — Once again, Point Pleasant is showing up in the strangest places.

Both the Mothman Museum and the Lowe Hotel are featured in a new book called “Eerie America: Travel Guide of the Macabre” by Eric R. Vernor and Kevin Eads.

The book, which lists a state-by-state tour of what it calls the “haunted and bizarre,” was released in late January.

The Mothman Museum has its own page in the book, complete with photos and a brief description about what the museum is all about. Seeing as it is the only Mothman museum in the world, the book gives it a special nod as such and describes its collection of props from “The Mothman Prophecies” movie as well as its archival material on Point Pleasant’s most famous resident.

As for the Lowe Hotel, it has a page in the book which briefly describes the hotel’s history which began in 1901. However, it also describes the supposed hauntings which go on within its walls. These hauntings include a small child being seen on the hotel’s third floor - the third floor is described as having the most paranormal activity. In addition to the third floor, reported hauntings also include that of a female ghost in the mezzanine on the second floor and unexplained string music coming from the fourth floor, the location of the grand ballroom.

The Lowe and Mothman Museum are in pretty infamous company in the book which, according to Amazon, journeys to haunted old battleships, abandoned prisons, creepy lunatic asylums, the Amityville Horror House, the Winchester House, museums such as Edgar Allan Poe’s home, New Orleans Voodoo Museum, the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast, and much more.

The book suggests where to visit, stay and eat with chapters on each state and instructions as to how to best experience the most curious destinations in the United States.
