The Bend Area celebrated Independence Day in a big way Friday, as both New Haven and Mason held holiday parades, and the Town of Mason hosted an all-day event at the park. Pictured is the float decorated by the Girl Scouts that won first place in the float contest at New Haven, and second place in the Mason contest. The theme was “Let Girl Scouts Wet Your Knowledge of the Bill of Rights,” and the girls enjoyed shooting water guns at those watching the parade. Also pictured, the float decorated by the Mason United Methodist Church, which placed first in the Mason parade and third in New Haven. The theme was “Freedom of Religion: God is our Firecracker.” The New Haven United Methodist Church won third place in Mason and second in New Haven. Prize money was awarded by the Smith-Capehart American Legion Post 140 and Stewart-Johnson V.F.W. Post 9926. More photos from the Bend Area Fourth of July festivities on page four.
