SOUTH WEBSTER — Bloom-Vernon Superintendent Rick Carrington on Thursday confirmed sheriff’s reports that a high school student did make violent threats to other students. He said that student is not expected to return to South Webster High School.

According to a report filed at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office contacted them after being alerted by someone in their county that a student from South Webster High School threatened online to kill other students at the school. An officer from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office went to South Webster High School to speak with the principal, and was advised that the student had made threats and was suspended for 10 days and possibly more.

A student incident report, included in the sheriff’s report, said the student told a friend that he would tell him when to stay home if he ever decided to “shoot up the school,” and said if he had enough rounds he would kill everyone in the school. The child also reportedly made gun gestures, pretending to shoot himself in the head.

The officer said in his report that he then spoke with the child’s parents, who told him that they have removed all weapons from their home while the child was attending a behavior facility in Tennessee.

Carrington said no weapons were ever brought to school. He said he has met with the student’s parents and the child, who is not identified because of his age, is not expected to return to South Webster High School. When asked if the child was removed by the school or by his parents, Carrington would not comment because of student privacy issues. He did, however, say that this incident is not an exclusionary action — meaning it would not necessarily result in the student’s expulsion.

No charges have been filed at this time.
