The 2013 golf season officially ended within the Ohio Valley Publishing area Wednesday afternoon after Gallia Academy missed the cut at the Division II District Championships held at Pickaway Country Club in Circleville.


The Blue Devils finished eighth out of 10 teams with a final tally of 351, with Dares Hamid leading the way with an 18-hole round of 80. Bruce Moreaux was next with an 81, followed by Zach Graham with a 93.


Miles Cornwell rounded out the team tally with a 97, while Marcus Moore fired a non-counting effort of 98 for GAHS.


Washington Court House won the district title with a final score of 320, finishing two shots ahead of runner-up Fairfield Union (322). The Lions and Falcons were the two teams to advance to the D-2 state tournament next week.


Drew Oxley of Chesapeake and Eli McKee of Southeastern fired respective rounds of 73 and 76, which earned the duo a pair of spots individually at next week’s state tournament.


Point Pleasant also completed its 2013 campaign recently at the Class AAA Region IV tournament held at Twin Silos Golf Club in Lavalette.


The Big Blacks finished sixth out of eight teams with a final tally of 268, with Denver Thomas leading the way with a 77. Kelsey Allbright was next with an 82, while Jon Rhea concluded the play four, count three scoring with a 109. Matthew Martin also fired a non-counting 114 for PPHS.


Thomas’ 77 tied with two other golfers from Hurricane and Logan for the two individual spots at state, but the PPHS junior missed qualifying after losing on the third playoff hole.


Huntington won the Region IV title with a final tally of 231, while Cabell Midland (232) and Logan (241) rounded out the top three spots in the field.
