BIDWELL, Ohio — An outstanding first half leads RVHS to victory.


The River Valley girls basketball team outscored Ohio Valley Conference guest Rock Hill by 23 in the first half of Thursday night’s 49-32 Lady Raiders victory in Gallia County.


RVHS sophomore Leia Moore scored 11 points in the first period to lead the Lady Raiders (7-10, 3-5) to a 17-7 edge at the end of the stanza. River Valley’s defense held strong in the second and allowed the Silver and Black to push the lead to 31-9 at the end of the first half.


Rock Hill (3-14, 1-8) outscored the hosts 16-to-9 in the third period but RVHS was able to close the game with a 9-7 run to take the 49-32 triumph.


The Lady Raiders were led by Leia Moore with 15 points, followed by Chelsea Copley and Shelby Brown with nine apiece. Rachel Smith had eight points, Courtney Smith added six, while Tianna Qualls finished with two for the Silver and Black. RVHS shot 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) from the charity stripe in the win.


Rock Hill was led by Madisson Damon with 14 points, all of which came in the third quarter. Kacie Russell marked seven points, Lindy Simpson added three, while Brooklyn Massie, Anna Darby, Sarah Travis and Sablina Henderson each had two points. The Redwomen were 2-of-4 (50 percent) from the free throw line.


River Valley also defeated RHHS on January 13, by a count of 43-38 in Pedro.
