Point Pleasant holds off Panthers, 62-60

HAMLIN, W.Va. — A win on the road, no matter how small the margin, is always sweet.
The Point Pleasant boys basketball team earned a 62-60 triumph Tuesday night, edging non-conference host Lincoln County.
The Big Blacks (13-8) nipped the Panthers 18-to-17 in the opening quarter but the Panthers rallied back to take the 34-33 lead at halftime. PPHS outscored Lincoln County 13-to-9 in the third quarter to take the three point lead into the finale. The Panthers marked 17 points in the fourth quarter, but Point Pleasant scored 16 to secure the 62-60 win.
Nick Templeton led the Big Blacks with 16 points, followed by Wade Martin with 13 and Brian Gibbs with 10. Alex Somerville and Garrett Norris each had eight points, Aaron Chapman had five , while Evan Potter rounded out the PPHS total with two points.
The Panthers were led by Schylar Kelly with 25 points, followed by Jacob Hudson with nine and Jacob Ashley with eight. Corey Rusk added five points, Jacob Kirkendoll added four, while Andrew Davis and Jake Reynolds each had three. Caleb Ellis rounded out the scoring with two points.
PPHS also defeated Lincoln County on January 17 in Point Pleasant, by a score of 62-38. The Big Blacks have won three of their last four games, while LCHS has dropped two in a row.
