TEAYS VALLEY, W.Va. — Point Pleasant senior Kelsey Allbright won medalist honors, but even that wasn’t enough for the Point Pleasant golf team Thursday night as host Winfield claimed an eight stroke victory in a non-conference dual match at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club.
The Generals received four sub-50 rounds and eventually posted a winning tally of 184, which was slightly better than the 192 posted by the visiting Black Knights. PPHS had only three golfers finish with sub-50 efforts, which ultimately proved to be the difference on the par 36 front nine.
Allbright, however, gave the guests a fighting chance after posting the low score of the day with an 8-over par round of 44. A trio of WHS linksters tied for second place with identical rounds of 45.
Bryce Tayengco and Matthew Martin followed Allbright with matching scores of 48, while Rhett Lanier rounded out the Point scoring with a 52. Hunter Holcomb and Logan Hill also added respective efforts of 61 and 70 for PPHS.
Garrett Keefer, Evan Haley and Nick Nester each led WHS with matching 45s, while Adam Perry rounded out the team tally with a 49. Peyton Moore also shot an even 50 for the hosts.
