GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — The two-time reigning champs just moved back into a familiar position.
The Meigs golf team moved back into a tie for first place in the league standings after claiming an 11-shot victory over the field during the third Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division match held Thursday night at Cliffside Golf Course in the Old French City.
The Marauders posted a winning tally of 187 on the back nine, which ended up being more than enough to knock off runner-up Vinton County and its final total of 198. The win also allowed MHS to pull even with the Vikings in the overall standings, with both programs now owning a 16-2 overall mark through three events.
Host River Valley placed third overall with a tally of 202, while Athens (219) and Alexander (233) rounded out the top five team spots. Wellston (237) and Nelsonville-York (254) wrapped up the final two team positions at the event.
Logan Sheets of RVHS won medalist honors for the third consecutive TVC Ohio round after posting a 5-over par round of 41. David Davis of Meigs and Austin Ward of VCHS were co-runners-up after firing identical rounds of 43.
Mitchell Metts followed Davis with a 46 for Meigs, while Levi Chapman and Chase Whitlatch rounded out the winning tally with respective efforts of 48 and 50. Matthew Fisher and Evan George also contributed identical rounds of 55 for the Marauders.
Zach Morris followed Sheets with a 49, while Evan Justus and Cliff Chapman rounded out the RVHS tally with respective rounds of 54 and 58. Grant Gilmore and Cameron Marcum also shot rounds of 58 and 72 for the hosts.
The top four scores from the non-local teams were as follows.
— Alexander: Dallas Sweeney 53, Kyle Holt 53, Casey McDonald 59 and Casey McDonald 68.
— Athens: Ryan McCarthy 50, Zach Howman 51, Zach Shrivers 59 and Jordan Deem 59.
— Nelsonville-York: Chase Koker 57, Stephen Bishop 61, Colt Yinger 67 and Ben Johnson 69.
— Vinton County: Austin Ward 43, Alec Boothe 44, Alex Dixon 53 and Bailey Bartoe 58.
— Wellston: Blake Royster 55, Dylan Shaeffer 58, Dakota Martin 61 and Seth Coulter 63.
After the third of seven rounds in TVC Ohio play, Vinton County and Meigs are tied for first place with matching 16-2 league marks. RVHS is third at 13-5, while Athens (8-10) sits alone in fourth place. Wellston (5-13), Alexander (4-14), and Nelsonville-York (1-17) round out the bottom three spots.
