BIDWELL, Ohio — So much for gracious guests.


The River Valley volleyball team was swept by Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division guest Athens, in three games Thursday night in Gallia County.


The Lady Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0 TVC Ohio) took a 25-9 victory in the first game, while taking a narrow 25-21 win in the second game. AHS rolled to a 25-6 win in the third game and opened its season in style.


The Lady Raiders (3-3, 1-1) were led by Alex Truance and Rachael Smith with three service points each, while Chelsea Copley and Courtney Smith both marked two points. Angel Toler, Jacey Walter and Ashley Gilmore each had one point in the setback. Walter and Truance each marked an ace in the win.


Truance, Rachael Smith and Leia Moore each had a kill for the Sliver, Black and Pink, while Courtney Smith posted two assists. The River Valley defense was led by Moore with three blocks, followed by Courtney Smith with two digs. Toler, Truance and Rachael Smith each had a dig in the match.


The Lady Raiders will return to action on Wednesday when they host Meigs. RVHS will look to avenge the loss to Athens on September 23 in The Plains.
