MERCERVILLE, Ohio — The South Gallia Rebels made an opening statement Friday night with a 48-12 triumph over the visiting Sciotoville East Tartans in a Week 1 gridiron matchup at Rebel Stadium.

Akia Brown of SEHS returned the opening kickoff for a 71-yard touchdown within the first 15 seconds of the game and with the failed PAT, the Tartans had the lead of 6-0. It would also prove to be the only time in which East had the lead during the game.

South Gallia followed by taking its opening drive all the way down the field, which resulted in a nine-yard touchdown run by Isiah Geiger. SGHS missed the PAT, tying the contest at six with 5:32 left in the first quarter.

Geiger rushed for a second touchdown at the 2:50 mark in the first quarter, this time from seven yards out. A successful two-point conversion by Geiger pushed the lead to 14-6 by the end of the first quarter.

Within the first four minutes into the second quarter, Landon Hutchinson of SGHS connected to Joseph Ehman for a 61-yard touchdown pass and an unsuccessful PAT, allowing the Rebels to increase the lead out to 20-6.

With 3:50 remaining in the first half, Landon Hutchinson completed another pass to Joseph Ehman for an 80-yard touchdown — and a successful two-point conversion by Isiah Geiger gave the hosts a lead of 28-6.

Landon Hutchinson rushed for a 25-yard touchdown and added a successful two-point conversion, giving the Rebels a comfortable lead of 36-6. Just as time ran out on the first half, Drew Lowe completed a 43-yard touchdown pass to Akia Brown for a 36-12 contest going into halftime.

At the 7:11 mark of the third quarter, Dakota Wroten of South Gallia ran for a seven yard touchdown run, giving SGHS a lead of 42-12. With 2:38 remaining in the third quarter, Isiah Geiger recovered a fumble in East’s end zone for a touchdown —giving the Rebels a final tally of 48-12.

South Gallia’s Landon Hutchinson led the Rebels in passing after going 3-for-8, 160 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Dominick Seward led the team in rushing with 15 carries for 98 yards. Isiah Geiger had 12 carries for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Dakota Wroten had seven carries with 50 yards and one touchdown. Landon Hutchinson had three carries for 27 yards and one touchdown.

Joseph Ehman led the Rebels in receiving with two receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Kane Hutchison had one reception for 19 yards. The Rebels had a total of 441 yards of offense. The victors’ valiant had 14 first downs. A total of eight penalties for 65 yards. A total of four fumbles and a loss of one. The total time of possession is 27:51.

Sciotoville East’s Drew Lowe led the Tartans in passing with a 3-for-10 effort for 68 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Akia Brown led SEHS in carries with 16 carries for 49 yards. Michael Stiltner had six carries for 58 yards.

Michael Stiltner led the team in receiving with two receptions for 25 yards. Akia Brown had one reception for 43 yards and one touchdown. The Tartans had a total of 186 yards of offense. SEHS had seven first downs. A total of eight penalties for 78 yards. A total of two fumbles and one for a lost. The total time of possession of 20:09.

South Gallia will return to action on Friday as it travels to Stewart to battle the Federal Hocking Lancers in a TVC-Hocking matchup at 7:30 p.m.
