POINT PLEASANT — The glass slipper fit Hannah Workman Monday night when she was crowned the 2009 Mason County Fair Queen.

The ‘Cinderella’ themed pageant provided the audience with entertainment throughout the evening as all the contestants took part in an opening number “I Wanna Be A Princess”, competed in Promotional, Evening Gown and On-Stage Interview. At the end of the evening, the glass slipper could only go to one contestant and dreams did come true for Miss Hannah Workman.

“I am really excited and tired,” Workman said. Her reaction to hearing her name called was one of a kind and anyone could see how happy she was to win the crown.

Workman is the 18 year old daughter of Doug and Vickie Workman of Point Pleasant. She was crowned by the 2008 Mason County Fair Queen, Katrina Keefer.

She also adds to the history of the pageant this year. On several occasions, sisters have captured the fair queen title. In 2007, her sister, Rachel Workman was crowned the Mason County Fair Queen.

Workman won’t be riding around in a pumpkin during the fair. The 2009 Mason County Fair Queen will be transported around in a John Deer Gator which is provided by Stover Trucking LLC.

She is a 2009 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and will be attending Marshall University in the fall to pursue a degree in Communications.

Workman’s court includes: Claire Cottrill, daughter of Tim and Debi Cottrill of Point Pleasant, was first runner-up. Megan Casto, daughter of Dennie and Robin Casto of Leon, was second runner-up. Hannah Casto, daughter of Dennie and Robin Casto of Leon, was third runner-up.

Sponsors for the Queen’s Court awards were Ohio Valley Bank, scholarships; Deal Funeral Home, sashes; Petal Pushers, flowers; Mason County Fair Board, trophies; and Putney’s Photography, 8 x 10 portraits.

Receiving the Miss Photogenic award and a gift basket courtesy of Picture Perfect Productions was Claire Cottrill.

Miss Congeniality was awarded to Megan Casto. She received a $50 cash award presented in memory of Annette Hanes by Annette’s family; $25 cash award in memory of Geraldine Rayburn presented by Nelson Rayburn; $25 cash award, courtesy of OVB; sash, trophy, flowers, and an 8 x 10 portrait.

Hannah Workman won the Top Promotional Award. Her 30 second promotional gave the audience a ‘tour’ of the Mason County Fair. She received a gift basket courtesy of Joyce Blake – Avon Representative.

The new Top Evening Gown Award went to Claire Cottrill. She received a gift basket courtesy of Vines and Roses.

The Brandy Barkey Community Service Award was awarded to Lindsey Deem. Barkey presented her with a plaque and $50 cash award.

Fair parade awards were also given. Winning first place and receiving $75 was Hannah Workman. Second place and $50 went to Claire Cottrill. There was a tie for third place. Both Randi Roush and Megan Casto won the award. Stover Trucking LLC sponsored the cash awards.

Other contestants were Cinthia Arbogast, Mackenzie Stalnaker, Summer Stover and Hannah Wisinsky. All contestants received a t-shirt, tiara, crown necklace, and fair pass. Sponsoring those awards were AB Contracting Modular Division, Victoria’s Prom & Bridal, Crank’s Animal Hospital and the Mason County Fair Board.

Randy Parsons emceed the pageant for the seventh year in a row and entertainment was provided by Jillian Wedge, 2009 Miss WV Association of Fairs & Festivals Queen.

Judges for the pageant were Bri McAtte, Brenda Brown and Tracy LeMaster. Visiting royalty filled the stage and the newly crowned Little Miss and Mister Mason County Queen and King, Jessica Dangerfield and Parker Henderson, introduced themselves along with the others.

Workman says she looks forward to reigning over the 2009 Mason County Fair.
