Bidwell-area man faces indictment

GALLIPOLIS — A Bidwell man has been indicted by the Gallia County grand jury for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Robert R. Simmons, 29, 254 Merry Road, according to the Oct. 19 indictment, allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with a minor older than 13, but younger than 16 between July 4 and July 31, 2006.

Other indictments unsealed by the Gallia County Common Pleas court were issued against:

  • Antonio J. Maddox, 744 Third Ave., Gallipolis, on Oct. 19 on a trafficking in drugs charge for allegedly, knowingly selling or offering to sell .7 of a gram of crack cocaine.

  • Bradley J. Bonice, 24, 260-1/2 Fourth Ave., Gallipolis, on Sept. 6 on a theft of a motor vehicle charge for allegedly, knowingly obtaining or exerting control over a 1993 Ford Festiva with the purpose to deprive the owner of the vehicle and without authorized consent.

    Several cases have been resolved by the court. They include:

  • Jeremy Johnson, 24, 1082 Hamilton Road, Crown City, pled guilty to one count of breaking and entering on Nov. 8.

    Johnson was indicted on March 1 for, by force, stealth or deception, trespassing into Bladen Landing, 15083 Ohio 7 South, with the purpose to commit a theft offense.

    Johnson was sentenced to two years community control, 500 hours community service with all but 40 hours stayed, which will be further stayed if Johnson retains employment for at least 35 hours a week.

    In addition to submitting to a Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime (TASC) evaluation, Johnson must complete any recommended treatment, obtain his GED and pay all probation fees and court costs.

    Johnson must also complete treatment at the SEPTA Correctional Facility in Nelsonville.

  • The case against Earl D. Caldwell,45, Albany, who was indicted on Aug. 8 for illegal conveyance onto a detention facility, was dismissed due to Caldwell entering a plea in Gallipolis Municipal Court.

  • The case against Daniel Craycraft, 30, address unknown, indicted on April 12 for felonious assault, was dismissed.
