POINT PLEASANT — Nothing beats a warm blanket this time of year, but many residents are going without.
New Hope Bible Baptist Church’s TAG ministry recently stepped in to meet this need — TAG stands for Touching All Generations.
Wilma Hill of TAG, said the group started doing outreach programs earlier this year and this month have taken on collecting new blankets for senior citizens in need. Anna Music is also a TAG member who works with the Mason County Action Group and helped assess who will receive more than 45 blankets collected.
Beverly Houder of the Gene Salem Senior Center said Music and home health nurses would likely deliver the blankets and deliver them to the ones who need them most.
Music and Hill remarked people often assume someone is taking care of their elderly neighbors but in some cases, there’s simply no one. They also remarked on the giving spirit of those elderly who are used to taking care of themselves and even though they might need it, they would sooner buy a blanket for someone else.
Though 45 blankets were collected, there are around 125 clients who are eligible to receive them and could use them - for this reason the Gene Salem Center is accepting donations of new blankets to help meet this need.
