HARTFORD — Residents who want to try to make a difference in the Town of Hartford have cast their names to be on the ballot for this year’s municipal election.

Those who wanted to file for office had until this past Saturday to do so. Five council seats and the mayor’s and town recorder’s positions are open.

In the mayor’s race, incumbent Sam Anderson will seek his third term as mayor and will face former mayor Robert Crouse and newcomer Daniel Rardin.

Town recorder Cheryl Oldaker will be seeking her seventh term in office and will face former councilman Kenny Greene.

For the open council seats, incumbents Susan Kensler and Tom Anderson Jr. will seek re-election and will face DeeDee Dudding, Lois Dudding and Tim Greene.

Current council members Patty Neil and William Roush will not seek re-election. Neil served two consecutive terms, while Roush served one after his recent return to the administration.

The fifth council seat currently is vacant and will remain that way until the election, according to Mayor Sam Anderson. Leland Turley resigned from his seat in November after serving nearly four years for the town.

Those elected to the administration will face decisions regarding the water and sewer systems and will serve two-year terms.

The towns of Mason and Leon also will be conducting municipal elections this year.

In Mason, candidate filing ended in January and resulted in three people seeking a term in office. Incumbent Mayor Mindy Kearns will not seek re-election, so Jerry Tucker will run un-opposed for the position of mayor, while incumbent councilman Marty Yeager and former councilman Ralph Ross have filed for two of the five open seats.

Ross served as a councilman until his resignation last May. Current council members are Jeff Fowler, Steve Ohlinger, Sarah Stover and George VanMatre. Brooke Pauley currently serves as recorder and also will not seek re-election.

Although the official filing period has ended, residents may file as a write-in candidate through the end of April.

As of press time, the Town of Leon was expected to finalize its election procedures during a meeting Monday evening.

The municipal elections in Hartford and Mason will be June 9. New administrations in all three municipalities will take office July 1.
