Filing period for Mason election open

MASON — Those in the Town of Mason who wish to serve as an elected official now have the opportunity to file for candidacy.

The filing period opened Monday, Jan. 14 and town employees stated if one wishes to file, they simply need to stop by the Mason Municipal Building to acquire a filing form during regular office hours of 8 a.m to 4:30 p.m. There is also a $5 fee to file.

Employees also said there have been a few potential candidates who picked up a filing form as of Wednesday afternoon, yet no one has officially filed for candidacy. Positions available for filing include Mayor, Recorder and all five Council seats.

The filing period will continue until Jan. 26. The election will take place on June 11 and those elected will take office beginning July 1. It was reported that the mayor, recorder, and each council member will serve a two year term and council meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of the month.

Currently, the positions are held by the following: mayor, Mindy Kearns; recorder, Deann Russell; council members, James Pauley, Nick Northup, Michelle Pearson, Sarah Stover, Marty Yeager. Kearns made no comment yet on whether she or any other current council members will be seeking re-election.
