Greetings to all Mason County veteran supporters.

We are once again preparing to send off our local West Virginia National unit as they deploy to combat duty. It is always an honor for me to provide confidence and material support for our fellow community members as they leave their homes, families and employment. I would like to make an offer to you to take part in expressing gratitude and concern for the unit’s fine men and women.

This program is not about money. This program has been developed to provide community and military individuals an opportunity to meet and express friendship and support.

On Feb. 21, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., there will be a lunch prepared for the unit by local veterans from Amvets and the Marine Corps League. I am proposing that we provide gifts and a financial donation to express our love and support for them and their families. This is where Project Goodbye With Love can help us.

The gifts will be provided as packages, one each for all unit members, composed of anything your organization deems expressive of care and well wishes for someone leaving home and family. Letters, cards, tokens, pencils, CDs might be appropriate. Anything which might help someone pass lonely time or help give release during times of adversity. Please avoid anything which might be considered as contraband, knives etc., or items of significant monetary value.

Finally, one or more representatives from each of the participating groups or organizations will be invited to share lunch with the unit and present your gifts directly to unit members.

I will say again, this project is not about monetary value. It is about heartfelt sharing. The act of giving a gift will allow your representative the chance to meet and share a meal with some soldier departing for overseas military duty. This is an opportunity for you to experience at least minimally one of the most profound processes in military duty and I would like to be able to offer this to as many as possible. Sadly, there will be limitations on seating though so, make your decisions and contact me as soon as possible.

Financial donations will be delivered to unit leadership for use as health, welfare and morale funds. These funds will improve the unit’s ability to take advantage of morale improvement opportunities and provide improved dependant support capabilities. All funds will be used solely for the benefit of unit members.

I will coordinate this project and welcome any questions or suggestions.

Please designate your representative and contact me by email or phone right away so we can begin.

Mission first. Veterans always.
