MASON — At the most recent meeting of the Town of Mason Council, council members discussed the newly updated 100-year floodplain map.

Mayor Mindy Kearns stated the map was sent to the council by FEMA and was available to local residents to view at the city building. Kearns also stated there are appeal forms available at the city building for local citizens who have any discrepancies with the location of their home in regards to the updated map. It was also stated at the meeting that the map would appear in the Point Pleasant Register for citizens to view, as well.

Also at the meeting, council members discussed the possibility of having a “Years of Service Plan” for town employees. Kearns stated this was being looked into as a way to offer some benefits for town employees, such as having paid holidays. Kearns stated at the meeting she will look into this matter further with the town’s attorney and there are plans to discuss it further at the next meeting.

In other council news, Recorder Deann Russell presented a report on delinquent B&O taxes. It was also stated at the meeting that delinquent business owners will be turned over to the town’s attorney. Russell also held the third and final reading of the Ordinance Creating a City Court, Providing a city Judge, Establishing the Duties and Authority of Said City Judge and Establishing the Procedures of Said City Court. Councilman Marty Yeager made a motion to accept the final reading, with a second from Councilman Nick Northup. Motion passed.

Council members also discussed trees on Hickory Lane, where Kearns said a citizen had purchased property and asked about the trees’ potential removal. Councilman Yeager also asked Kearns if she had any new information regarding the building owned by the Clifton Methodist Church, as reported on in previous editions. Kearns stated she had no new information.

It was also reported at the meeting that the Mason Fire Department will be holding a bazaar following the Christmas parade, which is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. It was also noted that Santa will also be at the fire station following the parade and will be giving out cookies from Homemaid Treats and Eats.

Also making personal appearances were Larry Daniel, Pete Shepard, Donna Vickers, Pat Allensworth, and Danny Yonker. It was stated that Daniel asked to be updated on the speed limit signs and railroad lights and Vickers asked when then shoulder work, as reported on in previous editions, would be completed. Kearns stated at the meeting the shoulder work should be completed by Nov. 15.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved with a first from Councilman Northup and a second from Councilwoman Michelle Pearson. Several bills were also presented and accepted for payment with a first from Councilman Northup and a second from Councilman Yeager. Both motions passed.

In addition to Mayor Kearns, council members present were Nick Northup, Marty Yeager, Michelle Pearson, and Recorder Deann Russell. Council members James Pauley and Sarah Stover were absent.

The Town of Mason Council will meet again at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, in the town hall.
