NEW HAVEN — At their most recent meeting, council members for the Town of New Haven voted to set up a payment plan to repay a debt to Triad Engineering.
According to the meeting minutes, the town recently received bills totaling $21,757.25 from Triad Engineering, who have asked to be paid via a payment plan. Councilwoman Sarah Gibbs made a motion for the town to pay $2,000 a month concerning an invoice from 2012, with a second from Councilwoman Amy Ferguson. Motion carried.
Council members also had another invoice from Triad Engineering from 2006. Council members asked that it be looked into further before a payment plan was created.
Concerning the police department, it was reported that Patrolman Johnson will be leaving for the academy on Jan. 7, 2013, and will be returning on April 26, 2013.
Several public speakers were also present at the meeting and spoke to council members on their various concerns. According to the minutes, a citizen spoke on their concerns on standing water on Travis Drive. A discussion also took place concerning drain boxes on Lynn Drive. Another citizen addressed council members on abandoned cars. Police Chief Hardwick stated he would look into the ordinance concerning this issue to see how it reads concerning cars on private property.
Another citizen expressed their concerns regarding a house located near the entrance to the town. The citizen said they would like the town to purchase the house and demolish it and considers it a safety hazard. A fourth citizen also discussed the B&O Ordinance the Mayor has been working on and asked for some more information.
In other council news, the following building permits were also presented and approved: Permit 718 to Frances Stukey for a fence; Permit 719 to Rick Price for a new roof; Permit 720 to Christina Rickard for a new roof; Permit 721 to Joey Whited for a storage building. A motion to accept was made by Councilman Jim Elias with a second from Councilwoman Jessica Howard, with one abstention due to being on the zoning board. Motion carried.
The minutes from the Nov. 15 meeting were read and approved with a first from Councilwoman Howard and a second from Councilwoman Ferguson. The minutes were also read and approved from the Nov. 29 meeting with a first from Councilwoman Gibbs and a second from Councilman Elias. Both motions carried.
Accounts payable were also read and approved with a first from Councilwoman Howard and a second from Councilman Elias. The financial report was also read and approved with a first from Councilwoman Ferguson and a second from Councilwoman Howard. Both motions carried.
In addition to Mayor George Gibbs, council members present were Jessica Howard, Kenneth Vickers, Jim Elias, Amy Ferguson, Sarah Gibbs, and Recorder Roberta Hysell.
The next New Haven Council meeting will be at 6 p.m. in January 2013.
