School superintendent candidates confirmed

POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Board of Education has released the names of the seven people who have applied for the position of superintendent of Mason County Schools.

On Thursday, members of the board met in executive session to discuss what questions they will ask during the interview process that is scheduled to take place at 9 a.m. May 2 at the Mason County Career Center.

Candidates include two current Mason County Schools directors, an associate professor and directors from other counties and organizations.

The candidates are:

• Sandra Angius of Sissonville. She is the vice president of programs for Edvantia in Charleston and is the former director of research coordinator for the West Virginia Department of Education. She also was the director of the Upward Bound program at Marshall University and a former teacher.

• Dr. William Capehart of Point Pleasant. He is the director of special education with Mason County Schools and is a graduate professor of education at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. He also was a graduate professor of education and curriculum at Marshall University Graduate College and was a former superintendent of Boyd County Schools in Ashland, Ky., and once served as superintendent of Mason County Schools.

• Stephen Kingery of Scott Depot. He is the director of curriculum with Mason County Schools. Kingery was a director in the Headstart program in Huntington and an assistant superintendent and superintendent for Ironton, Ohio, City Schools. He is the former principal of Ashton Elementary School.

• Irene C. Murphy of Ravenswood. She is the director of elementary/middle schools for the Jackson County Board of Education and is a former Mason County principal and teacher.

• Dr. Douglas Sturgeon of Ashton. He is the associate professor of the School of Education at the University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande, Ohio. Sturgeon was once a teacher in Mason County.

• Thomas R. Tull of Scott Depot. He is the director of middle childhood education for Putnam County Schools and is a former teacher and principal for the Putnam County Board of Education.

• Rebecca Zuspan of Mason. She is the coordinator of student services at
