COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Quite a few Ohio prep players are raising the bar when it comes to putting up points.

Here’s just a sampling from around the state:

LUCKY 13: Clyde junior Amanda Cahill scored 13 points, all in the first half of a 75-14 win over Huron Thursday, to become the all-time leading scorer in program history with 1,376 points. The Indiana University recruit added 22 points in a 65-26 win over Middleburg Heights Midpark to push her career total to 1,398 with one game left before tournament time. Clyde is 69-3 overall in Cahill’s two-plus seasons with a state semifinal appearance in 2011 and a regional final showing in 2012.

DENNY’S OPEN ALL NIGHT: Zack Denny of Germantown Valley View leads the state in scoring (33.7 points per game) and needs just 111 points to reach 2,000 for his career. The 6-foot-1 guard and Bowling Green signee owns a season-high 51 points against Carlisle. He also led the state in scoring last season (27.9).

PEIGHTON’S (IN FIRST) PLACE: Portsmouth sophomore Peighton Williams is resetting the school record books again. Last year, she set a school record with 42 points in a tournament game against Chillicothe Huntington. In Saturday’s 56-28 loss at Logan, she set the single-season scoring record with 11 points that led to the new mark of 438 points, eclipsing the mark of 435 set in 2003-04 by Tonya McKenzie.

SHE’S A LAFORCE: Vermilion senior AuBree LaForce, a 5-2 guard, scored 11 points in a 52-37 loss to Avon to become the program’s all-time leading scorer at 1,136 career points.

OTHER PRODUCTION LINES: Mansfield Senior’s Donovyn Benson scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Tygers knocked off Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 74-62; Jordan Lauf hit for 34 points in Napoleon’s 70-50 win over Bryan; Ironton senior Zac Carter scored 37 points in an 84-56 win over Spring Valley, W.Va., to make him the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,598, breaking the mark by two points previously held by Dennis Gagai who led the Fighting Tigers to a state runner-up in 2005 against O.J. Mayo and Bill Walker of North College Hill; and Abby Siefker, a 6-2 post for top-ranked Ottoville who is headed to Bowling Green, went over 1,000 career rebounds (she’d already topped that figure in points) in a 42-18 win over Delphos St. John’s.

LONG WAY BACK: Two years after a broken leg that not only threatened his high school basketball career but his ability to walk, Piketon’s Craigen Moore scored 23 points, allowing him to top 1,000 for his career, in a win over Cols. Horizon Science Academy.

NEVER TOO LATE: New Knoxville’s boys had a 36-16 lead on Fort Recovery late in the first half, but had to hold off a furious fourth quarter charge by the Indians to take a 65-62 win; and Dalton Sinn hit a 3-pointer with 13.4 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, then hit a 3-pointer with 15 seconds to go in the extra period to give Haviland Wayne Trace a 56-55 win over Convoy Crestview, avenging one of two losses on the season.

BULLETIN-BOARD MATERIAL: The Celina girls extend their winning streak to 14 games, 13 by double-digit margins; Findlay Liberty-Benton’s boys won the Blanchard Valley Conference for the 16th time in the last 22 seasons; if Lima Bath wins one of its two remaining Western Buckeye League games, it will win at least a share of its first WBL boys basketball title since 1970; Norwalk won a third straight Northern Ohio League title for the first time with a 47-35 win vs. Bellevue Friday behind 24 points (and 12 rebounds) on 8 of 10 shooting from junior Jeff Thomas — and has now won 40 straight regular-season games; Huron (15-4) hasn’t lost since the calendar turned to 2013, taking 10 in a row; Trina Current had 15 points and 14 rebounds as Casstown Miami East defeated Twin Valley South 63-54 to clinch an outright Cross County Conference title with their 13th straight win; Natasha Siebenaler of Jamestown Greeneview (20-1) had 19 points with six steals in a 52-44 defeat of Triad that secured an outright Ohio Heritage Conference title; and Jackson’s girls completed their regular season with a 21-1 record, setting a school record for wins in a season; Athens’ girls, led by sophomore guard Dominique Doseck who had a school-record 43 points earlier this season, are 18-2 — the most regular-season wins for the program since 1982-83.

DEFINING “CLUTCH”: Arcadia’s Miranda Palmer converted 10 of 10 free throws in the final 84 seconds, was 12 for 12 from the line in the fourth quarter, and scored 18 of her game-high 29 points in the final period to give the Redskins a 60-53 win over Liberty-Benton on Thursday. The win wrapped up Arcadia’s first outright Blanchard Valley Conference girls title since 1989.

KINGS OF DAYTON: Mark Alstork scored 15 points and Dayton Thurgood Marshall, the state’s top-ranked Division II team, defeated rival Dunbar 59-53 on Sunday to clinch the Dayton City League title. The Cougars (20-1) also swept the two-game series from the Wolverines, the defending Division II state champs. Thurgood also handed Dunbar (15-5) its first loss last month, 81-62.

DEFINING “DEFENSE”: Holgate’s boys team is known for its staunch defensive play and low-scoring games. In a 35-28 win over Patrick Henry on Saturday, the Tigers led 8-2 after the first quarter.

They also led 8-2 at the half — since neither team scored a point in the second period.
