Dear Editor:

Mason County voters must go to the polls to vote for three new members for the Board of Education to make responsible academic and business decisions for our students.

At the Meet the Candidate forums, rumors and innuendoes seem to have been the agenda of an incumbent board member.

No one “got rid of the superintendent” — The State School Board of Education recruited him for a job in another county to bring their schools into state and federal compliance — and “NO” he isn’t seeking another position in Mason County.

Even worse a teacher’s organizational leader put out a flier that said “Rumors have it.”

The rumors turned out to be just that — rumors — false rumors. Wouldn’t this seem to be old time politics at its worse?

And what about the former Point Pleasant High School property (sold for only) $500,000? Again a rumor was spread that it was going to be for the construction of a grocery store. No one knows what the property will be developed for and will it be for the best interest of the community? More time should have been spent on the marketing of the million dollar property.

A good school board member shouldn’t allow personal feelings toward the administration to affect their judgment — personal interest that transcended the best interest of the $45 million dollars the administration acquired which benefited all of Mason County students and teachers.

That $45 million created an awful lot of jobs for the building trade people and local workers.

Shouldn’t we support board members who maintain integrity and professional objectivity?

Shouldn’t we have board members who can read a spread sheet and vote for business items reliably? Work experience in business fields are a must for the school’s limited budgets.

Would you like to see board members who communicate honestly, directly, and efficiently with all constituents?

Then make sure you check out the new members who are running.

Board members should support the students and teachers and create and follow an educational agenda for our children — not one for political interests.

Wouldn’t you think good board members would have submitted a Financial Needs Project to the SBA for funds for the Leon Elementary School and needs for all of the schools? There were millions of dollars awarded to several counties.

And shouldn’t board candidates make sure their political signs aren’t nailed to trees and utility poles?

For the benefit of our children and teachers, let’s go to the polls and vote for three new school board members.
