POINT PLEASANT — In addition to egg hunts, another favorite Easter tradition is gathering with family to celebrate and eating a big meal.

Unfortunately, that tradition may not be possible for everyone, and there are several local ladies who have been working to change that. Several members of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 23 in Point Pleasant recently collected canned and box food items to give away as part of an Easter food drive.

Auxiliary President Lisa Thorne and Chaplain Marcia Finley stated this was the first year the ladies auxiliary has collected food item for veterans and veteran families, and when asked if it was something they wanted to continue in the future, they were hopeful they could.

“If we can get people to do it, we sure will,” Thorne said.

Finley stated that auxiliary members have been collecting food for around one month, and have received over 200 canned food items, as well as many boxed goods which are now ready to be given away. Finley stated that, with the items they currently have, the auxiliary should have enough to donate to around 45 families of both active and disabled veterans.

Auxiliary members will be giving away food items to veterans starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, in Epling Hall at the American Legion Post 23 in Point Pleasant.
